The Sun City Million Dollar pigeon race is now in its 16th year. Who would have imagined back in 1997 that this race would evolve into the greatest one loft pigeon race in the world?
Pigeon fanciers throughout the world will gather in the Sun City Superbowl on Saturday the 28th January 2012 to await the arrival of their world class pigeons who would have been liberated from Hopetown, a distance of 550kms. The winning pigeon can arrive within an 8 – 10 hour period. Weather conditions play a vital role in the winning time.
The Belgium press has described this race as the ‘Tour de France’ of pigeon racing and to be crowned the winner is the coveted prize for the owner of the pigeon. First prize for the winner is a cool $200,000!
The race pays out over $1,3 million with 5 motor cars going out to the winners of the 5 Car Race Hot Spot winners.
Over 30 countries throughout the world have entered over 5000 pigeons into the 2012 race.
