Great Brak Grabadoo turns 9 as the year turns.

Spring is in the air. Undoubtedly a precursor for a wonderful and festive summer, and unfortunately the time is ticking towards swimsuit season (for those of us who have neglected the gym in search of a cup or a slice of solace) as well. Another year, another page of resolutions for the dustbin, and another Great Brak Grabadoo before the year is out.

As thousands of holiday makers frequent the beaches, support the trade and drink in the sun of the Southern Cape, the organisers of the 9th annual Great Brak Grabadoo will be checking and double-checking final details for the run, walk and ride being held on 31 December 2011.

For nine years, locals and visitors alike have come to know the famous orange t-shirts of this loved family fun race. Not only is the race fun and a lot of sports with everyone relatively stress free and in holiday mode, but it is the biggest cycle race in the Southern Cape that time of the year with on average 1000 participants every year. This fact is especially important for all those cyclists tackling the Argus, wanting to get in some needed kilometres in a safe and controlled environment before March.

Whether you are a mountain biker, a runner, a road biker or just a casual walker – this race is perfect for you to shed the last bits of 2011 and to start the New Year afresh. Runners or walkers can enter to take part in the 5/10km, whilst mountain bikers can choose 15, 35 or even 70km routes. Road bikers can choose between the 20 or 40km routes. All the routes traverse the picturesque area surrounding Great Brak River, and those in the know will tell you that this sleepy town is one of the most beautiful scenic splendours along the Garden Route, and that there is no better way to get up close and personal with its charm than when your tackies hit the tar or you pedal for pleasure. Each participant receives a medal, South Magazine and Mithcum Product.
