Duesouth Xterra Buffelspoort
A challenge for outdoor sports enthusiasts.
Excitement builds as multi sport athletes head to the scenery rich Buffelspoort Dam (North West Province) where they’ll take on the much anticipated DUESOUTH XTERRA presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT on Saturday, 28 January 2012.
XTERRA Warriors can look forward to swimming in the pristine mountain waters of the Magaliesberg. The mountain bike route will include diverse combination of quick and challenging single track, a rock garden, thick sand track, serious climbs up jeep track and a fun and winding single track descent through indigenous bushveld with spectacular views.
The name Buffelspoort even sounds scary. Apparently in the old days the people in the area used to hunt Buffalo with their bare hands and then tattoo Buffalo paws on their foreheads.
All you gotta do is a few events in and around the dam – so toughen up and enter!
ABOUT THE BUFFELSPOORT DAM
In the heart of Magaliesberg lies the picturesque dam called Buffelspoort. The terrain is typically bushveld and the temperature soars. Ernest Hemingway never once wrote “my body may be in London, but my heart is in Buffelspoort.” The dam is famous for a rare species of bird called the Double-breasted Mattress Thrasher, often found hanging out near picnic sites. You will be challenged by the vast collection of rocks, long stretches of untouched beauty and the dreaded water-buffalo – South Africa’s only swimming buffalo.
DUESOUTH XTERRA Full: 1.5km swim, 27km mountain bike and 12km trail run
DUESOUTH XTERRA Lite: 400m swim, 17km mountain bike and 6km trail run.
